"The
kingdom
of heaven
is like treasure
hidden in a field
which someone found and hid;
then in his joy he goes and sells all
that he has and buys that field."
"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant
in search of fine pearls;
on finding one pearl of great value,
he went and sold all that he had and bought it."
(Mt. 13:44-46)
My love affair with the black pearl began in 1984 when I was visiting Moorea, a piece of paradise, a luscious tropical island in French Polynesia with pristine turquoise blue lagoons and jagged edged mountains.
My first encounter with the absolutely stunning, rare and luminous black pearl could only be summed up as love at first sight. Not having been much of a jewelry admirer before, I was quite surprised by my incomprehensible attraction and fascination with this numinous gift of the Goddess of the sea, which can only be found today in the deepest and darkest secret places of exotic islands in French Polynesia and the South Seas.
Unfortunately, I was unable to take one home with me as I found the cost to be prohibitive, especially at a time when I was still a student. However, I promised myself that someday, I’ll be able to gain this treasure hard to attain through my own hard work and savings. The following year, I worked long hours through the university to earn enough to get closer to the object of my desire.
After graduation in 1986, I returned to French Polynesia on my quest for the exotic mysterious black pearl. Roaming the streets of Tahiti, I spent four whole days searching through a multitude of jewelry stores until finally I discovered a stupefying large perfectly round flawless black pearl, radiating from within, the colors of the rainbow, with such iridescent luster and mirror-like surface, that it just took my breath away! The long sought gift to myself was set as the piece de resistance in a beautiful solid 18K gold chain necklace. I had to exercise my bargaining skills to the hilt before the Tahitian lady at the counter agreed to reduce her price to $3,000.00! I was also fortunate enough to find a lovely simple but elegant black pearl ring to take home for my beloved mother, at what I felt would ordinarily constitute a very high (four-figure) price to pay for a ring! Even at the time, I felt that this awe inspiring black pearl ring was worth every hard earned penny!
Years later, while sharing a meal with my mother and my sister, my mother brought tears to my eyes when she told me: “I know how much you love black pearls, and I would like you to have the black pearl ring you gave me, so that you can wear it together with your necklace. I thought about leaving it for you in my will, but I wanted to give it to you with warm hands!” As she placed the precious ring on my right ring finger, warm tears of gratitude streamed down my cheeks. It was no special occasion, just a day of outpouring of love from a mother to her daughter, a day I will never forget. And that made it so much more precious…..
Unfortunately, however, I was subsequently the sorrowful victim of a devastating burglary which stripped me of all my belongings overnight. What I grieved for the most, was the loss of my cherished black pearls…. But the burglary did not take away from my love affair with the black pearl! Eventually I was able to acquire another set of Tahitian black pearl ring and necklace, even though they could never replace the sentimental value of those first loves. But this time, my ring was stolen from a restaurant restroom where I had removed it before washing my hands. Though I found out that a teenage girl took it, I was unable to find her. I hope it has brought her a more virtuous mind and that she recognizes its value. However, once again, I mourned the loss of a friend, a special gift from the Black Pearl Goddess of the sea herself.
Now, more than twenty-one years later, I’m moved to make this pearl of great price more readily accessible and affordable to all those who appreciate the inner glow and outer luminosity found within the darkness of the black pearl. And so, I dedicate this site to the Black Pearl Goddess who shares her precious gifts with all those whom recognize her value and pay her proper homage.
Regard the black pearl as a symbol of love regained, Goddess of the sea’s own treasure reminding us of the bright light to be discovered and brought back to the surface from the deepest depths of darkness. Appreciate your unique worth by allowing yourself to indulge in the beauty and pleasure offered by the Black Pearl Goddess. Share this rarest of presents with your beloved one, or special friends and family members, for it will be remembered forever, as a genuine symbol of your deepest affection. Give it with warm hands….
